YK, IMHO, I hate acronyms like IMHO.
In my hesitating honest humble opinion, when writing an article… one shouldn’t use acronyms that aren’t really acronyms, well, that is only MHO. I don’t like reading formal articles that suddenly strain my eyes with capital letters that only 12 year olds know how to decipher.
Anyway, I am guilty of writing LOL, OMG and BTW, but I try to rid myself of that. And this is a lifelog; I don’t believe anyone will consider my entries as “formal articles”. I don’t write it like that.
BTW, HYS (have you seen) the commercial 4 AT&T? IHISM. I hate it so much!!!
I especially hate stupid acronyms that are actually spoken in a sentence- just like in the video. It is bringing the annoyance level up. “Hahahah! Lol! Ow Em Gee, that is so funny!!” Jeezums, don’t they realize how stupid sounding it is? I hope all the acronym users get transported to a different planet where they can alphabet talk all they want. And I hope a harmonious life for them decoding acronyms that, for all I know, have a dozen meaning. FU!!! Friends Unite. Fuck U. Forgotten Undies. Forever Underrated. Figure (it out) Urself.
Next to internet slang is text speak. Text messaging caught late here in the States, but back in the Philippines, back in highschool, I knew how troublesome it can get. I wasn’t a fan of writing words that lack letters, usually a vowel, but this can’t be helped. I hated it because it can confuse the reader and the message is sometimes understood differently. Some shortened words could be translated into more than one and I’d end up scratching my head what the heck the sender meant. Usually, this leads to misunderstanding due to misinterpretation. “Nmn” could be “naman” or “namin” or possibly “namana”. It’s such a waste to text back and ask “Ano?” I can forgive this when I read them as text messages, other than that, no. Come on!!! Writing emails and internet posts doesn’t restrict you to 60 characters. I don’t see a reason why you should publish as if you had limited memory space. Also, nowadays, you can send a text message in parts so you don’t really need to fit a message into 60 character “SMS”. Those days are supposedly long gone. I don’t really see it as a problem here, but I’m sure in Manila, it still is. “Db? 220 nmn a! Gst k nxt tym hnd n gn2 mgtxt kc nkkbd3p. Buti nlng frnds q hnd gn2 mgtx skn.”
Sheesh, can’t people exert effort to exercise their brain and develop language skills the proper way?
